The Great Outdoors

Grandmont is nestled in one of the most beautiful and undiscovered parts of France and visitors here nearly always attempt the famous Chemin du Grandmont (on the trail of the monks of Grandmont), often by foot but also by bicycle, motorcycle or horseback.

Walk. The full trail is approximately 18 kilometres and by foot takes around five hours in all. It begins by the vault of Grandmont situated outside a small chapel (built in 1825 by the last monk of Grandmont) and from there takes you through villages and forests, alongside ponds, brooks and small lakes, past farms and pretty houses, eventually leading back to the vault.

Grandmont is a birdwatcher’s paradise with a huge selection and varying species to be seen in the area. Deer and (on the rare occasion) bore can also be spotted in and around the forests. There are around 50 gardens and parks locally as well as butterfly gardens and city of the insects.

Swim. There are several smaller lakes and waterways around Grandmont. The main places for swimming and watersports are at Lac de Jones and Lac Saint Paradoux, the latter being a huge lake with watersports galore, man made beaches, bars and beach side cafes. There are also several canoeing centres within approximately one hour’s drive.

Fish. Fishing is a hugely popular pastime in the Limousin with numerous places to fish in the area. Click here for an overview of the most frequented lakes for fishing in the area.

Ride. Horse riding is also popular, in fact renowned in this area of France and we’re fortunate to have an excellent Western style ranch next door and an equestrian for classical riding close by. Click here for more details
